CAA Sparkling Ball March 2023

2022 marked the 125th anniversary of the formation of the club. We celebrated with special social events throughout the year…

LIVE Television!

In November 2022 a wonderful evening celebrating classic TV themes written by jazz composers presented by the Paul Higgs Quintet.

Drifters Boy!

In October 2022 legendary tour manager Phil Luderman regaled us with stories of fifty years on the road looking after international stars. Interviewed by Chris Hare.

Tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

On Bank Holiday Monday, 19th September the committee decided to open the club which was much appreciated by the large number of members and guests who attended. The scheduled show was reworked by Simon Bashford to include songs and anecdotes to celebrate the life of Her Majesty.

Singers Mira Ormala, Simon Bashford and Keith Hopkins sang Royal favourites while Chris Hare recounted memories of organising a Royal visit and meeting the late Queen and Duke. Laurence Payne played songs from 1926, the year of our late Monarchs birth and accompanied the show brilliantly.

A lovely evening and mix of music and humour.

Monday Night Shows

Some pictures from our Monday member’s night shows.

Platinum Jubilee Evening

Celebrating 70 years of our majesty on the throne. Our Platinum Jubilee Event in June was a great success. Our DJs Kevin and Neil Taylor so entertainingly took us through decades of hits and really had the joint jumping!

Barrie Stacey Tribute Show

On Monday March 28th the club staged a special evening to celebrate the life of Barrie Stacey who died, aged 95 on New Year’s Day. Fiona Sim, Simon Bashford, Kay Carman and Keith Hopkins sang his favourite songs and Chris Hare regaled the full house with Barrie Stacey anecdotes.

Musical Director at the piano was Roger Lewin. Thank you Kevin and Neil Taylor for these pictures.

Photo Memories from Carmel Gregg...

These pictures were taken in 1971 during the three nights of celebration when the Club paid off its mortgage, originally organised by Jack Warner in 1950, to own the premises outright.  It was an amazing occasion and important in the CAA’s history.  Many celebrities responded to our invitation.  Not all were photographed. Carmel Gregg was club secretary at that time and recently visited the club. We thank her for sending in these lovely memories.

Group 1: Richard Briers, Bill Fraser, Lynn Redgrave, David Nixon, Billy McComb, James Lytton, (Front) Lesley Sarony, Carmel Gregg, in the middle. Standing at the back Alan Randall.

Group 2: Nan Kenway, David Nixon, Greatorex Newman, Carmel Gregg, Arthur Askey, Alan Rendall

Group 3: Eamonn Andrews, Carmel Gregg, Arthur Askey shaking hands with Nan Kenway, Lesley Sarony in the background.

Group’s 4 and 5 are from a children’s party at the club which formed part of the celebrations. Pictured are Pamela Cundell, Rowena Vincent, Rowena’s mother,  Carmel Gregg, Clfford Ellison and Barbara Sumner (all committee members at that time.)
